Drinking cold liquid with food?
I was recently diagnosed with leaky gut syndrome and I have been reading alot about how it starts and how it should be treated. There is a theory that I find very interesting and I tend to think it might actually be true. I’ve heard that drinking liquids(particularly cold) can hinder your digestion because it dilutes your stomach acids. Supposedly, it’s even worse when the liquid is cold because digestion requires quite a bit of heat and the temperature drop would just slow that process down, keeping larger food particles from being broken down and digested properly. Is there any professionals that have any insight into the matter?
Many people have the notion that we must drink cold liquids with meals such as sodas, tea, or even ice water, in reality, we should drink warm or room temperature liquids. Warm liquids help in digestion, reduces stomach acids, make you feel fuller sooner (eat less), and even allows your intestines to function at a better capacity. It even helps with those who have a “nervous” stomach or have problems with eating. Also, those liquids must be low on the acid scale such as natural teas, decaffeinated coffees, or just plain water. Even darker wines are lower on the acidic scale than white or lighter colored wines. It helps, also, to look for foods that are “ph” compatible. Sometimes when we eat high acidic foods or high alkaline foods this is where many of us get acid reflux, heart burn, IBS, and even in your case leaky gut. Look up “PH balanced foods”.
