they said i have Leaky Gut Syndrome. i thought a gluten free diet would cure the gut?
Chronic fatigue and depression have nothing to do with diet.
Depression is when the neurotransmitters in your brain are at the wrong level. Diet doesn’t change that.
Chronic Fatigue is just a made up diagnosis to give people when they don’t know what’s wrong with you, like “fibromyalgia”. They don’t know what the disease is or how to treat it, but they have to call it something, so they came up with “chronic fatigue syndrome” because it’s sufferers are always tired.
Leaky gut syndrome is another MADE UP disease, most often used by non-traditional health practitioners. In 14 years in the ER I have never heard that term. When I looked it up on Bing, it simply said:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaky_gut_syndrome
Leaky gut syndrome is based upon a theory on which there is a condition of altered or damaged bowel lining, caused by toxins, poor diet, parasites, infection or medications, which has led to increased permeability of the gut wall to substances which normally remain isolated in the lumen, away from the body’s internal circulatory or interstitial areas.[1] NSAIDS such as aspirin are known to erode the gut lining and cause inflammation[2], other medications such as corticosteroids suppress immune function and disturb intestinal flora[3][4][5], and antibiotics indiscriminately kill bacteria causing bacterial flora disruptions in the small intestine[6].
It has been proposed that, when substances such as toxins, microbes, undigested food, waste or larger than normal macromolecules leak through an abnormally-permeable gut wall, they affect the body directly, while others postulate an immune reaction to these substances.[7]
Although commonly diagnosed by alternative practitioners, leaky gut syndrome is not a recognized medical condition
