If BPA is in all plastic containers(including vit, meds, food, drinks) why are we still using them?
It doesn’t make sense if BPA is a chemical used in all plastics-whether be pvc pipes, coating of food cans-BPA causes cancers, leaky gut syndrome, asthma-why are we letting big business & gov’ts get away with plastic containers with BPA? It should not exist in our world, if we desire a healthy environment. Until recently BPA coated baby food formula cans-the FDA had those manufacturers remove the BPA coating, why not do it to everything? Makes sense to me?
Before anything, sign a petition to ban the ^^%%$$#^ here, they only have 400 some signatures and want 2,000… http://www.thepetitionsite.com/20/tell-congress-to-ban-bpa/ Make sure to pass it on to everyone you know through all your social networking sites!
It’s maddening and reprehensible, isn’t it? Like the other answers so far, it’s all about the power of the industry that makes this *&%&&*(. (Dow Chemical and Sunoco are a couple of manufacturers of BPA.) Truth is, BIG BUSINESS and CORPORATIONS and INDUSTRIES have taken over our government, our democracy….our politicians who are supposed to work for THE PEOPLE really work for them, because those corporations and industries give them lots of money to get re-elected, then send their lobbyists to take their side when it comes to making laws…THIS WILL NOT CHANGE UNTIL CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM HAPPENS….we’ve gone from a “Democracy” to a “Corpocracy”….
I looked up BPA (bisphenol-A) on wikipedia and it’s some BAD STUFF if you read all about it there, and read the sources. Linked to SO MANY health problems, it really needs to be banned….it’s mimics estrogen and may even be linked to the obesity epidemic in this country!!
Did you know it’s even on receipts you get from stores? Yes, if the receipt looks “shiny” that’s BPA….so don’t take a receipt unless you need one, and wash your hands!!
Besides everyone contacting their lawmakers to try to get it banned, if everyone started writing & calling businesses and companies to complain about their use of it, that could work too…there are substitutes they could use in place of BPA that aren’t as dangerous to human health–Japan has banned it and another plastic is used for all the same things. Tell retailers like Wal Mart, Target, etc. not to use it in their receipts, and not to sell products with it. (I know that would be a lot, but if they know people don’t want it, they might pressure food manufactureres as well.) Contact companies that make products you use/eat—soda companies (they line soda cans with it) like Coke and Pepsi, and whatever canned food you use, contact those companies. Get lots of signatures–start a petition.
BPA is in #3 and #7 plastics, so avoid those when you can.
I’m also trying to contact the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) about banning this chemical, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. I’ll update the answer with links to do so if I find where you can comment about it on their sites.
Here’s a link to a good article about BPA as well:

I think all these things–higher obesity rate, skyrocketing rates of autism, ADD, ADHD, among other psychological disorders, also on the news that girls are starting puberty much earlier is related to all the toxics and chemicals in our environment…and it just seems like we’re doomed to devolve as the population skyrockets causing even more chemicals to be used… sorry to sound so dismal, but all these chemicals are rampant, corporations don’t want to clean them up or police themselves, gov’t doesn’t want to ban and regulate them….and people don’t know much about it all, or if they do, they don’t care!
