Why are probiotics recommended for leaky gut if they get into the bloodstream?
I don’t get it. Leaky gut allows bits and pieces of food and bacteria to get into the bloodstream. If you take a pill of probiotic bacteria millions of it will get directly into the bloodstream from leaky gut and obviously will cause an autoimmune reaction, probably a bad one. Why are so many internet sources, as many as I can see, recommending that people with leaky gut take probiotics?
Everybody’s gut is full of bacteria, called normal flora. This is the good bacteria that helps digest food and keeps other, bad bacteria in check. if the normal flora gets thrown off, it can allow the bad bacteria to take over, causing illness.
Sometimes antibiotics cause the normal flora to die along with some bad bacteria, but since the bad bacteria isn’t kept in check by the good bacteria that have been killed off, it’s allowed to take over. Other problems can cause the bad bacteria to take over.
So if you have a bacteria in your gut causing the “leaky gut,” you take probiotics to regain the balance. Probiotics are the live good bacteria and if you take the right amount of it, it will overtake the gut again, “pushing out” the bad bacteria.
If you genuinely have a rupture or perforation in your gastrointestinal tract, you’ve got to see a doctor. This can even be fatal, if you get enough of the toxins/ bacteria from your intestines in your bloodstream. It can lead to sepsis, where your blood vessels become dilated and your blood isn’t able to reach all your organs. Your blood pressure drops so much that it’s possible to die.
It will probably require more than just probiotics (which are sold over the counter) to fix your problem. Antibiotics or surgery may even be required to fix the problem.
